QVT Gin (70cl, 43.7%)
This month’s featured gin is QVT Gin from the QVT Distillery.
QVT Gin History
QVT is short for ‘quantre-vingt trois’, 83 in French, the code of the department in the heart of Provence where the distillery is based. This award-winning London Dry Gin was founded by Justin and Anna Matterson. It celebrates the region or the ‘terroir’ of Provence, a place the couple fell in love with in their
youth.
This project was launched after the couple holidayed in the area in 2013 and realised they had not come across any local distilleries making gin! This led to the creation of QVT, which was launched in 2019 after years of thorough research and development.
The Distillation Process
Each gin is handcrafted in the alembic (copper still), handmade by Christian Carl of Germany. The gin is made with botanicals that could grow in Provence to give ‘gout de terroir’ (the taste of land). This includes juniper, lemon, lavender, rose flower, rosemary, thyme, coriander seeds & rosé wine.
Result & Perfect Serve
The result, a gin that gives the aroma and captures the essence of Provence, offering a juniper fragrance alongside tones of citrus zest & coriander, while herbs such as thyme, rosemary & lavender bring in the Provencal scents.
For the perfect serve, drink it neat or enjoy over ice.
